Highlights
Aptamer is progressing three potential non-exclusive licensing deals for its first enzyme inhibitor, with the first agreement forecast to contribute around 15% of annual overhead through passive income.
A second enzyme modulation project has reached the final stage of development, with licensing discussions underway.
A top five pharmaceutical company has expanded evaluation of Aptamer’s Optimer® after positive performance, with the reagent supporting an active clinical drug development programme.
Aptamer Group plc (AIM:APTA), a developer of next-generation synthetic binders for the life sciences industry, has provided an update on the advancement of its enzyme modulation programmes and its ongoing collaboration with a top five global pharmaceutical company. The announcement highlights multiple licensing opportunities, late-stage development progress, and improving commercial traction for the company’s Optimer® technology.
Enzyme Modulation: Licensing Opportunities
Aptamer’s proprietary Optimer® binders can modulate enzyme activity by binding specifically to an enzyme and altering its structure or blocking its active site. This enables fine control of enzyme function, opening applications across therapeutics, diagnostics, molecular tools, and industrial bioprocessing.
The company has made progress in securing multiple non-exclusive licensing opportunities for its first enzyme inhibitor:
-
Licence 1: Aptamer is in advanced negotiations on a 10-year non-exclusive agreement with its first commercial partner. Initial sales forecasts indicate that the agreement could cover around 15% of Aptamer’s annual overhead through passive income during the next three years. Commercial sales are expected to commence before the end of the year, subject to the partner achieving projected sales.
-
Licence 2: Discussions are ongoing with a second partner, a global distributor of enzymes, for non-exclusive access to the inhibitor. Sales forecasts are being finalised and will be shared as negotiations progress.
-
Licence 3: A Material Transfer Agreement has been signed with a third partner, a leading global enzyme distributor, enabling evaluation of Aptamer’s technology ahead of potential licensing. This agreement further broadens the prospects for additional non-exclusive licensing in the enzyme modulation segment.
Second Enzyme Modulation Project: Entering Final Development
Aptamer has also advanced its second enzyme inhibitor project to the final development stage following successful completion of earlier phases and customer validation. Licensing discussions are in progress for this reagent, which would add a second enzyme modulation technology to Aptamer’s commercial pipeline.
Collaboration with Global Pharmaceutical Partner
Beyond the enzyme projects, Aptamer reported progress on its ongoing development collaboration with a top five global pharmaceutical company. The partner has provided highly positive feedback on an Optimer® evaluated for ELISA applications, noting that it significantly outperformed all previously tested antibodies.
This has led to repeat orders to extend internal evaluation of the Optimer®, which is expected to support an active clinical drug development programme. Such reagent licensing agreements can command values up to several hundred thousand pounds, offering further revenue potential for Aptamer.
