ECR Minerals plc (LSE:ECR), a company dedicated to the exploration and development of gold resources in Australia, has announced the appointment of Mike Parker as a consultant geologist. This strategic addition to the team is expected to bolster ECR’s exploration efforts and enhance project development capabilities.

Extensive Experience in Exploration and Development

Mike Parker brings a wealth of expertise to ECR, with extensive experience in overseeing mineral exploration and project development. He has a proven track record of managing projects from initial discovery through to construction and production phases. Parker is particularly well-regarded for his 22-year tenure at First Quantum Minerals (FQM), where he held progressively senior roles, ultimately serving as country manager in various regions.

During his time at FQM, Parker played a pivotal role in two significant copper discoveries: the Lonshi and Frontier mines. As country manager in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), he managed operations involving up to 3,000 staff, overseeing two operational copper mines and a mine construction project. His responsibilities included not only operational management but also the implementation of community relations programs and sustainability initiatives aimed at fostering development in remote areas.

From 2011 to 2017, Parker served as country manager for FQM in Peru, where he was instrumental in designing and executing the company’s corporate strategy across Latin America, including regions such as Argentina and Chile. His role involved extensive engagement with government relations and communications, ensuring compliance and collaboration with local authorities.

Current Roles and Focus Areas

In addition to his new role at ECR, Parker currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Director of Aftermath Silver Ltd, a silver exploration company focused on projects in Chile and Peru. He is also an Executive Director at Solis Minerals, a critical minerals explorer with dual listings in Canada and Australia. At Aftermath Silver, Parker is concentrating on the Berenguela deposit, which has potential for battery metal applications, while leading Solis Minerals' copper exploration programs.

Professional Credentials

Parker is a fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (FAusIMM) and a member of the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP). He holds a BSc in Mining Geology (Honours) from the University of Leicester, underlining his academic foundation and commitment to the mining industry.

Conclusion

The appointment of Mike Parker as a consultant geologist marks a significant step forward for ECR Minerals as it aims to enhance its gold exploration initiatives in Australia. With his extensive experience in mineral exploration, project management, and community engagement, Parker is well-positioned to contribute to the company’s growth and success in the competitive mining landscape. His leadership is expected to strengthen ECR’s operational capabilities, paving the way for future discoveries and developments in the region.
