Highlights

  • Drilling at Groundhog Prospect uncovers new shallow uranium grades, expanding the mineralised footprint.
  • Nine Reverse Circulation (RC) holes drilled, with notable grades of 0.16% and 0.11% uranium identified.
  • Heavy snow halts operations, with plans to resume activities in spring after the thaw.

Thor Energy PLC (LSE:THR, OTCQB:THORF, ASX:THR) has reported positive results from its recent drilling campaign at the Groundhog Prospect in Colorado. The program has successfully extended the known mineralisation footprint, marking a significant development for the project.

Key Findings from the Drilling Campaign
The latest drilling initiative involved nine Reverse Circulation (RC) holes totaling 979 meters. These efforts followed up on the 2022 and 2023 exploration programs and have identified new shallow, narrow, high-grade uranium zones.

The most notable discoveries include uranium grades of 0.16% and 0.11%, with mineralisation extending 100 meters north and 300 meters east of previously known areas. The results highlight the potential for further resource expansion within the prospect.

Insights from Thor Energy Leadership
Alastair Clayton, Thor Energy’s executive chairman, expressed satisfaction with the program's findings:
“These Saltwash-style uranium deposits typically pinch and swell over relatively small distances, so we are pleased to have extended the known mineralised footprint by so much."

However, Clayton acknowledged that the intersections indicated in the gamma logging were narrower than anticipated:
“We are ideally targeting high-grade horizons of several meters in width, so the intersections indicated in gamma logging from this programme are narrower than we had hoped."

Challenges and Operational Pause
The early arrival of Colorado’s winter has temporarily halted drilling activities. Heavy snowfall has delayed further exploration, with operations set to resume in the spring once conditions improve. Clayton commented on the situation:
“With the Colorado winter arriving early, we will look to outline our next steps once the thaw begins in spring.”

Future Plans for Groundhog Prospect
The findings from this program provide valuable insights into the geology of the Groundhog Prospect. Thor Energy’s next steps will involve detailed planning to optimize the exploration strategy, with a focus on identifying broader, high-grade horizons.

Resumption of drilling in the spring is expected to build on the current results, with the aim of further delineating the uranium resources within the prospect.

Significance of the Discovery
The Groundhog Prospect represents a critical component of Thor Energy’s portfolio, with these results underscoring its potential as a promising uranium project. Expanding the mineralised footprint is a step toward unlocking the full resource potential of the site, aligning with the company’s broader strategy to advance its uranium exploration assets.

Conclusion
Thor Energy’s continued efforts at the Groundhog Prospect highlight its commitment to resource development in the region. While challenges such as winter weather delays have temporarily paused operations, the company remains focused on leveraging these positive results to drive future exploration success.
