Highlights:

  • Dunelm has acquired Homefocus, an Irish soft furnishings chain trading under the 'Home Focus at Hickeys' brand.

  • Homefocus operates 13 stores across Ireland and has an online presence, providing Dunelm with access to a new market.

  • The acquisition is seen as a strategic move to expand Dunelm’s reach in the Irish homewares market, with potential for growth in both physical and online retail.

Dunelm, (LSE:DNLM) the UK-based homewares retailer, has announced the acquisition of Homefocus, an Irish soft furnishings chain that operates under the 'Home Focus at Hickeys' brand. Homefocus has 13 physical stores across Ireland, as well as an established online retail operation. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The acquisition presents a significant opportunity for Dunelm to extend its reach into the Irish homewares market, which is valued at over £1 billion. With this move, Dunelm aims to connect with a broader customer base in Ireland, leveraging Homefocus’s existing retail footprint and online presence. The company sees potential in offering a wider range of products in Homefocus stores, aligning with its smaller format store models currently in operation in the UK.

In addition to expanding the physical retail network, Dunelm also recognizes the opportunity to enhance its online offerings in the region. The company plans to evaluate new store openings across Ireland as part of its long-term growth strategy. By integrating Homefocus’s operations, Dunelm intends to bolster its position in the homewares sector and build a more comprehensive customer proposition both in-store and online.

This strategic acquisition aligns with Dunelm's broader expansion goals, positioning the company for continued growth in the Irish market. With an established brand and infrastructure in place, Dunelm is well-positioned to leverage the synergies between the two companies, offering a more extensive product range and enhancing its online capabilities for Irish consumers.
