Agronomics (LON:ANIC), a leader in cellular agriculture, is excited to announce that its portfolio company, Solar Foods Oy, has launched two innovative products powered by Solein™ in Singapore. This milestone follows a strategic partnership with Japanese food giant Ajinomoto Co. Inc. and marks a significant advancement in food technology.
The new Solein-powered products—Traditional Flowering Mooncakes and Ice Cream Sandwiches—are introduced under Ajinomoto’s new conscious brand, Atlr.72™. This limited edition launch in Singapore represents the first commercial availability of Solein, a breakthrough ingredient derived from air and electricity, making its debut in the consumer market. The products will be available at Ajinomoto’s pop-up stores in Takashimaya Singapore from August 12 and One Holland Village starting August 30, just in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Solar Foods and Ajinomoto's collaboration began last year with the goal of piloting Solein in Singapore. With the Singapore Food Agency’s novel food approval, this launch is a critical step towards broader market expansion. Ajinomoto’s launch of Atlr.72™ aims to cater to the growing demand for health-conscious and environmentally sustainable food products. This partnership is expected to pave the way for Solein’s introduction into other markets, with plans to expand from sweet products to everyday foods.
Jim Mellon, Co-Founder and Executive Chair of Agronomics, emphasized the significance of this partnership. He noted, “The collaboration with Ajinomoto, a global leader in food, opens doors for further market expansion. We are eager to see Solein’s impact in Singapore and anticipate regulatory approvals in the US and Europe soon.”
Solar Foods' Factory 01, which began operations in April 2024, is the world’s first commercial-scale production facility for Solein. This factory enables Solar Foods to deliver Solein to the food industry at scale, marking a major step in the commercial use of this innovative ingredient.
Pasi Vainikka, CEO and Co-Founder of Solar Foods, highlighted the launch’s importance: “Ajinomoto’s introduction of Solein-powered products is a significant milestone. It not only advances the commercial use of Solein but also contributes to reducing the environmental impact of food production.”
Solein is an all-purpose protein grown from air and electricity, offering a nutritious, versatile ingredient that can replace traditional protein sources. It is suitable for any food product and enhances nutritional profiles with iron, fiber, and B vitamins. As Solein prepares to enter other key markets, it promises to play a pivotal role in the future of sustainable food systems.
