Keywords Studios PLC (LSE:KWS) has entered into an agreement to acquire Certain Affinity, a prominent game-development studio based in the United States. Known for its co-development services on major AAA multiplayer titles, Certain Affinity is expected to bolster Keywords' Create division, particularly in the action genre, while also enhancing the company's presence in the US and Canada.
Founded in 2006, Certain Affinity has played a significant role in the development of several high-profile franchises, including Halo, Call of Duty, Hogwarts Legacy, and DOOM. The studio provides a range of services that encompass end-to-end game design, user experience, multiplayer design, as well as audio and cinematics. Currently, Certain Affinity is engaged in the development of EXODUS, a project by Archetype Entertainment, a division of Wizards of the Coast.
The acquisition will see Certain Affinity continue to operate under the leadership of its founder and chief executive, Max Hoberman, along with President Paul Sams. This continuity aims to maintain the studio's established culture and operational expertise post-acquisition.
The financial aspects of the deal include both upfront payments and earn-out components, which will be funded through Keywords' existing revolving credit facility.

Hoberman added, “At this most difficult time in the market, we're thrilled to be able to provide stability and a supportive home for our team.” This acquisition marks a strategic move for Keywords Studios, enhancing its capabilities in the competitive gaming industry while providing growth opportunities for Certain Affinity.
