US & UK Market Updates in Tuesday’s Session

Global Markets: Broader indexes in the United States traded in green, with the S&P 500 index traded 70.03 points or 2.17% higher at 3,295.55, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index expanded by 443.94 points or 1.56% higher and quoted at 28,843.75 and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 9,407.78 and was up by 134.37 points or 1.45% against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at ET 10:00 AM).

 Global News: On 4th February 2020, the stocks on Wall Street opened in the green, as New York awoke to the news of China increasing capital investment to spur growth in its economy, especially during this tough time and under siege by the Coronavirus. Alphabet stocks fell by 3 per cent in pre-market trade after an analyst downgraded the securities of the company. Cathay Pacific stocks were down by 0.2 per cent, after news came out that the company was planning to cut down its capacity by around 30 per cent. Simon Property Earnings stocks were also down by 0.7 per cent after falling short on both Earnings and revenue estimates of the Market. Visa stocks were up by 1.29 per cent, after planning to change fees and charging rates for the US markets. eBay stocks were marginally up by 0.15 per cent, despite the board being pressured to sell its shares to starboard.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: Eaton Corporation Plc, Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc, and McKesson Corp are top gainers and increased by 5.97%, 5.40% and 5.10% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Alphabet Inc, Alphabet Inc, and Newmont Corporation are the top three laggards and decreased by 3.34%, 2.93% and 2.81% respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Digital Ally Inc, CLPS Inc, and Allot Ltd are top gainers and increased by 82.29%, 21.71% and 21.22% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Aethlon Medical Inc, Lianluo Smart Ltd, and InVivo Therapeutics Holdings Corp are the top three laggards and decreased by 24.78%, 21.40% and 19.55% respectively.

Top Performing Sectors*: Energy (up 2.29%), Consumer Cyclicals (up 1.61%) and Industrials (up 1.48%).

Worst Performing Sector*: Utilities (down 0.14%).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Nike Inc, Caterpillar Inc, and UnitedHealth Group Inc are top gainers and increased by 2.84%, 2.50% and 2.47% respectively.

Worst Performer*: Verizon Communications Inc is the top laggard which decreased by 0.25%.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 113.51 points or 1.55% higher at 7,439.82, the FTSE 250 index snapped 279.08 points or 1.32% higher at 21,439.93, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 60.57 points or 1.49% higher at 4,136.76 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended, up by 6.75 points or 1.64 per cent, at 418.47.

European News: Â In economic news, the IHS MARKIT / CIPS UK CONSTRUCTION PMI published by the company on 04 February 2020 has revealed that the construction sector in the country has turned the tide on the slump it had been going through in the past few months. However, it is still in the below 50 zone, where the index is divided with a figure above 50 denoting expansion, and a figure below 50 denotes a contraction. The sector though still in the contraction zone, has fallen in the slowest pace since May 2019, however the headline seasonally adjusted IHS Markit/CIPS UK Construction Total Activity Index rebounded from 44.4 in December 2019 to 48.4 in January 2020.

London Stock Exchange (LSE)

Top LSE Companies in the Gainers list*: KIER GROUP PLC (KIE), DP EURASIA N.V. (DPEU) and EVRAZ PLC (EVR) zoomed up by 16.84%, 6.90% and 6.34% respectively.

Top LSE Companies in the Laggards list*: MICRO FOCUS INTERNATIONAL PLC (MCRO), INTU PROPERTIES PLC (INTU) and NMC HEALTH PLC (NMC) were in the red zone and declined by 17.87%, 10.01% and 6.29% respectively.

Top FTSE 100 Companies in the Gainers list*: EVRAZ PLC (EVR), GLENCORE PLC (GLEN), and FERGUSON PLC (FERG) accelerated by 6.34%, 4.58% and 4.49% respectively.

Top FTSE 100 Companies in the Stragglers list*: NMC HEALTH PLC (NMC), POLYMETAL INTERNATIONAL PLC (POLY), CENTRICA PLC (CNA), went down by 7.18%, 2.15% and 1.98% respectively.

Top FTSE 100 Companies in high Volume zone*: LLOYDS GRP. (LLOY), BP PLC (BP) and GLENCORE PLC (GLEN).

Sectors in the positive zone*: Basic Materials (up 2.49%), Energy (up 2.29%), and Consumer Cyclicals (up 1.66%).

Sector in the negative zone*: Energy (down 0.64%).

Forex Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were quoting at 1.3041 and 0.8469, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasuries yield was quoting at 1.608%, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was trading at 0.560%, respectively.
