UK Market: The UK stock market turned cautious on Monday, with the blue-chip FTSE100 index giving up early gains. The other European markets were trading in the positive territory after it was reported that China was planning to ease its Covid-related restrictions, and the US inflation might be near the peak level. Back home, consumer stocks including JD Sports Fashion, International Consolidated Airlines Group, and Ocado Group were among the top gainers.
JD Sports Fashion plc (LON: JD.): The shares of the leading sports fashion retailer, JD Sports Fashion plc, were up by 4.04%, with a day’s high of GBX 124.80. Recently, the Founder and Chairman of the company, Peter Cowgill, has stepped down, and the recruitment process is ongoing.
International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON: IAG): The shares of the leading global airline business, International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A., were up by 3.92%, with a day’s high of GBX 135.60. After a rough phase, the company is expecting to generate profits from the second quarter till the end of the year as Covid curbs have been lifted.
Ocado Group plc (LON: OCDO): The shares of the global licenser of grocery technology, Ocado Group plc, were up by 2.82%, with a day’s high of GBX 926.80. Amid the cost-of-living crisis, the company has warned of lower profits as online grocery shopping will take a hit.
US Markets: The US markets in the futures trading were showing an uptrend. S&P 500 future was up by 25.25 points or 0.61% at 4,181.00, while the Dow Jones 30 future was up by 0.46% or 154 points at 32,312.00. The technology-heavy index Nasdaq Composite future was also up by 1.00% or 126.75 points, at 12,803.50. (At the time of writing – 9:00 AM ET).
In observance of Memorial Day, the US markets will remain closed on Monday.
