UK Market: The UK stock market moved higher on Monday, with the blue-chip FTSE100 index gaining over 1.2%. After a four-day long weekend, traders returned to the market in an optimistic mood, leading the index into the positive territory. The index was up even though the concerns regarding inflation have been rising, and the Brent crude price has been hitting the roof.
Prudential plc (LON: PRU): The shares of the leading London-based insurance firm, Prudential plc, were up by 4.72%, with a day’s high of GBX 1,066.00. The company has recently declared Anil Wadhwani as its next CEO emphasizing its growing focus on Asia.
Endeavour Mining plc (LON: EDV): The shares of the West Africa-focused gold producer, Endeavour Mining plc, were up 4.32%, with a day’s high of GBX 1,882.00. The company has recently unveiled its 2021 sustainability report and is expecting to conclude its decarbonisation policy this year.
Melrose Industries plc (LON: MRO): The shares of the UK-based manufacturer focused on turning around weak industrial businesses, Melrose Industries plc, were up by 3.71%, with a day’s high of GBX 138.35. The company has recently announced that it is selling its Ergotron Unit for $650 million.
US Markets: The US market is likely to get a positive start, as indicated by the futures indices. S&P 500 future was up by 42.25 points or 1.03% at 4,149.25, while the Dow Jones 30 future was up by 0.69% or 228 points at 32,116.00. The technology-heavy index Nasdaq Composite future was also up by 1.46% or 1282.75 points, at 12,733.75. (At the time of writing – 9:40 AM ET).
The shares of the leading US-based leading Ultra Low-Cost Carrier, Spirit Airlines (SAVE), were up by over 6% in the premarket trading session. This happened after another leading low-cost airline, JetBlue Airways (JBLU), softened its bid for Spirit Airlines, with its shares remaining unaffected.
The shares of the US-based pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly (LLY), surged by 1.2% in the premarket trading session. This happened after the company declared positive results in the analyses of diabetes drugs, Jardiance and Trulicity.
