At Global Front, shares in the United States were trading in red, with Dow Jones Industrial Average was trading at 26,080.85 and declined by 76.31 points or 0.29 per cent, the S&P 500 was trading 3.70 points or 0.13 per cent lower at 2,884.45 and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite was quoting at 7,940.38 and decreased by 23.86 points or 0.30 per cent respectively.
Weekly jobless claims fell by 8,000 to 196,000, dropping to a 49-1/2-year low last week. Other data on Thursday showed producer prices increased by the most in five months in March, but investors shrugged off the data after a Labour Department report stated that underlying producer prices remained soft. If Venezuelan and Iranian supply drops further, OPEC may raise oil output from July, indicating that stance is now softening.
Coming back to the European markets, on London Stock Exchange, the broader equity index FTSE 100 index closed the Thursdayâs session at GBP 7,417.95, down by 3.96 points or 0.05% against its previous closing price. The FTSE All-Share index rose by 3.18 points or 0.08 per cent to 4,057.76. Another broader European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 closed at 386.91 and surged by 0.23 point or 0.06 per cent from its previous close.
The UK and European Union leaders have agreed to delay Brexit by up to six months to October 31, agreeing to a flexible extension of the Brexit deadline. Prime Minister Theresa May had sought a shorter delay to June 30, but the EU has forced Theresa May to accept a six-month extension.
Performers and Laggards on LSE
Shares like EASYJET PLC (EZJ), TUI AG (TUI) and FULLER, SMITH & TURNER PLC (FSTA) were among the top performers and surged by 8.38 per cent, 8.27 per cent and 7.73 per cent respectively.
Stocks like SIRIUS MINERALS PLC (SXX), FRESNILLO PLC (FRES) and GULF MARINE SERVICES PLC (GMS) were among the laggards and decreased by 11.93 per cent, 7.23 per cent and 6.18 per cent respectively.
UKâs broader equity FTSE 100 index cues
Shares like EASYJET PLC (EZJ), TUI AG (TUI) and INTERNATIONAL CONSOLIDATED AIRLINES GROUP S.A. (IAG) were among the top gainers on the broader equity benchmark FTSE 100 index and were increased by 8.38%, 8.27% and 5.90% respectively. Stocks including FRESNILLO PLC (FRES), STANDARD LIFE ABERDEEN PLC (SLA) and AVIVA PLC (AV.) were laggards on the FTSE 100 index and were decreased by 7.23%, 3.37% and 3.12%, respectively.
On the other side, shares like LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC (LLOYD), VODAFONE GROUP PLC (VOD) and GLENCORE PLC (GLEN) were again top active volume stocks on Thursday.
On Sector specific front, Industrials, Financials and Consumer Cyclicals were among the top performing sectors and Healthcare, Basic Materials and Utilities were among the laggards.
