FTSE 100 falls with 3.5% unemployment dip

UK Market: The UK stock market was trading in the negative territory on Tuesday, with the blue-chip FTSE100 index losing around 0.7 per cent. This came with the release of the latest unemployment figures, which showed that the UK unemployment rate continues to be at its lowest levels in almost 50 years, tumbling to 3.5% in the three months to August. Nevertheless, the number of employed people dropped by 109,000 over the quarter as more people stopped looking for work. Additionally, inflation-adjusted pay growth excluding bonuses plunged yet again over the quarter to 5.4%.

Rentokil Initial plc (LON: RTO): The shares of the UK-based commercial company, Rentokil Initial plc, were up by 2.77%, with a day’s high of GBX 478.00. The shareholders of Terminix Global Holdings, Inc. have recently agreed to be acquired by the company.

Rolls-Royce Holdings plc (LON: RR.): The shares of the UK-based aerospace giant, Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, were up by 2.45%, with a day’s high of GBX 70.58. The company may soon get a contract involving next generation US helicopters.

Compass Group plc (LON: CPG): The shares of the leading food services business, Compass Group plc, were up by 1.65%, with a day’s high of GBX 1,822.50. The company has announced the promotion of Gaétan de L'Hermite to its Executive Committee.

US Markets: The US market is likely to get a sluggish start, as indicated by the futures indices. S&P 500 future was down by 10.75 points or 0.30% at 3,614.75, while the Dow Jones 30 future was down by 0.17% or 49 points at 329,213.00. Meanwhile, the technology-heavy index Nasdaq Composite future was also down by 0.30% or 33.25 points, at 10.950.25. (At the time of writing – 8:30 AM ET).

The shares of the online home services company, Angi (ANGI), were up by 2% in premarket trading session. The company replaced Oisin Hanrahan and appointed Joey Levin as CEO.

The shares of the industrial manufacturer, Leggett & Platt (LEG), plunged by 8.6% in the premarket trading session. This happened after the company lowered its sales and earnings guidance for the year.
