FTSE 100 extends fall amid rising fears of lockdown in China

UK Market News: The UK stock market extended the weak trade on Monday, with the blue-chip FTSE 100 index down by over 1.5%. The zero Covid policy of China has led to heavy selling across global markets. Mining shares like Anglo American and Rio Tinto, and companies focused on Asia, including Burberry, have taken a hit in London.

Burberry Group plc (LON: BRBY): The shares of the UK-based luxury fashion house, Burberry Group plc, was down by 4.41%, with a day’s low of GBX 1,562.50. The Asia-focused company turned cautious with the rising cases in China.

Anglo American plc (LON: AAL): The shares of the UK-based mining giant, Anglo American plc, were down by 6.30%, with a day’s low GBX 3,242.50. The company has recently reported less-than-expected production in the first quarter of 2022.

Rio Tinto plc (LON: RIO): The shares of the Anglo-Australian mining business, Rio Tinto plc, were down by 4.20%, with a day’s low of GBX 5,426.00. The company has reported a drop of 15% in its iron ore shipments in the first quarter of 2022.

US Markets: The US market is expected to have a sluggish start, as indicated by the futures indices. S&P 500 future was down by 14 points or 0.33% at 4,253.25, while the Dow Jones 30 future was down by 0.30% or 102 points at 33,626.00. The technology-heavy index Nasdaq Composite future was also down by 0.30% or 40 points, at 13,313.50. (At the time of writing – 9:12 AM ET).

US Market News:

The shares of the American social networking company, Twitter (TWTR), went up by 5% in the premarket trading session. The shares of the company have been on a surge since talks started about its takeover by Elon musk.

The shares of the American mass media company, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), declined by over 2.5% in the premarket trading session. The CNN+ service of the company, which was launched just a few weeks ago, is being shut down.
