FTSE 100 Edged Higher by 1.35%; Ted Baker up 12.63%

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in green - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 42.51 points or 1.21 per cent higher at 3,569.16, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index expanded by 349.69 points or 1.22 per cent higher at 28,995.35, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 12,021.41, up by 81.74 points or 0.68 per cent against the previous day close (at the time of writing, before the US market close at 3:00 PM ET).

US Market News: The key indices of Wall Street traded in the green. The total vehicle sales in the US were 15.2 million in August 2020 that was above the market’s expectation. Meanwhile, in August 2020, the private payrolls in the US increased by 480,000, but it was below the estimate of 1.17 million. Among the gaining stocks, AMC Entertainment’s shares surged by around 14.8 percent as the company is reopening more than 140 theatres this week. Draftkings was up by close to 6.8 percent after the company announced that Michael Jordan would join as a board advisor. Macy’s shares were up by close to 1.7 percent after the company reported an increase in digital sales. H&R Block was up by around 1.0 percent after the company reported quarterly profit above market estimates. Among the decliners, Tesla was down by around 5.1 percent after the company’s largest outside shareholder Baillie Gifford cuts stake.

European News: The London market traded in the green as the Nationwide House Price index increased by 2.0 percent month on month in August 2020 above an expected increase of 0.5 percent. The European market traded in the green as the Producer Price index increased by 0.6 percent month on month in July 2020 against an expected increase of 0.5 percent. Among the gaining stocks, Barratt Developments shares surged by around 8.7 percent after the company stated that it is seeing strong consumer demand. Rolls Royce was up by close to 4.3 percent after the company stated uptick in demand for its luxury cars. Unilever shares were up by close to 2.3 percent after the company reported that it would invest €1 billion by 2030 in cleaning its products and cutting carbon emission. Cineworld was up by around 1.1 percent after the company announced that Global City Theatres would refinance loans. Among the decliners, ImmuPharma’s shares plunged by close to 19.5 percent after the company announced it raised £6.5 million through the placement of shares. Horizonte shares were down by about 9.7 percent after the company reported the issue of shares.

Crude Oil Future Prices*: WTI crude oil (future) price and Brent future crude oil (future) price were hovering at $41.33 per barrel and $44.22 per barrel, respectively.

Gold Price*: Gold price was trading at USD 1,948.45 per ounce, down by 1.54% from previous day closing.

Currency Rates*: GBP to USD and EUR to GBP were hovering at 1.3321 and 0.8877, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasury yield and UK 10-Year Government Bond yield were trading at 0.654 per cent and 0.236 per cent, respectively.
