How the Global and European Markets Performed in Tuesday’s Trading Session?

US Markets: Broader indices in the United States traded in green - particularly, the S&P 500 index traded 19.31 points or 0.58% higher at 3,371.40, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index expanded by 106.27 points or 0.36% higher at 29,383.09, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 9,692.62, up by 64.23 points or 0.67% against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at ET 10:15 AM).

US News: On 11th February 2020, the stocks on the Wall Street opened in the green, as the market seemed positive on the slowing rate of infections from coronavirus. Jones Lang LaSalle stocks were up by 4.4 per cent, as the revenue presented in the earnings for the fourth quarter, beat the expectations of the market. Sprint stock was significantly up by 73 per cent, after the hinderance on its merger with T-Mobile was thrown out by a New York Judge. T-Mobile’s shares were also up by 8 per cent following this news. Stocks of T-Mobile’s competitors such as Verizon and AT&T depicted marginal losses. Under Armour’s stocks were down by 13.2 per cent, after the company released a press release regarding payment of US $425 million in restructuring charges. Hasbro stock was also up by 6.5 per cent, after reporting earnings, in which, its revenue was 30 per cent above the previous estimates of the market.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*: T-Mobile US Inc, DISH Network Corp, and Hasbro Inc are top gainers and increased by 10.60%, 8.58% and 5.46% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Under Armour Inc., Facebook Inc. and Schlumberger NV are the top three laggards and decreased by 16.92%, 2.07% and 1.42% respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Amkor Technology Inc, Genprex Inc, and Onconova Therapeutics Inc are top gainers and increased by 27.10%, 24.19% and 16.65% respectively.

Worst Performers*: YayYo Inc., Phio Pharmaceuticals Corp, and Lmp Automotive Holdings Inc are the top three laggards and decreased by 58.72%, 52.02% and 25.53% respectively.

Top Performing Sectors*: Telecommunication Services (up 4.73%), Energy (Up 1.40%) and Consumer Cyclicals (up 0.50%).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Dow Inc, Caterpillar Inc, and Cisco Systems Inc are top gainers and increased by 1.37%, 0.97% and 0.70% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Version Communications Inc, Nike Inc, and Walt Disney co. are top laggards and decreased by 0.68%, 0.38% and 0.37% respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 52.56 points or 0.71% higher at 7,499.44, the FTSE 250 index snapped at 152.70 points or 0.71% higher at 21,646.02, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 28.45 points or 0.69% higher at 4,170.07 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended, up by 3.84 points or 0.90 per cent, at 428.48.

European News:  In business news, airlines stocks on the London Stock exchange had a field day with EasyJet Plc and IAG the owners of British Airways and Iberia performing well at the indices. The development comes amidst Travel company TUI’s stocks also performing exceedingly well as it announced that it had registered a strong holiday demand this quarter. Several crisis events have hit the global airline industry in the recent past. The outbreak of the Coronavirus epidemic in China has led to massive fall in passenger numbers across the world who were still reeling under the impact of the grounding of Boeing  737 MAX aircrafts due to technical problems leading to several aircrafts being put to temporary disuse.

London Stock Exchange (LSE)

Top LSE Stocks in the Gainers list*: TUI AG (TUI), KIER GROUP PLC (KIE) and REACH PLC (RCH) zoomed up by 11.03%, 7.68% and 7.30% respectively.

Top LSE Stocks traded in red zone*: INTU PROPERTIES PLC (INTU), NMC HEALTH PLC (NMC) and MCCOLL'S RETAIL GROUP PLC (MCLS) were hammered by 27.27%, 16.45% and 8.21% respectively.

Top FTSE 100 Stocks traded in green zone*: TUI AG (TUI), JUST EAT TAKEAWAY.COM N.V. (JET), and SEVERN TRENT PLC (SVT) surged by 11.01%, 5.06% and 3.05% respectively.

Top FTSE 100 Stocks traded in red zone*: NMC HEALTH PLC (NMC), EVRAZ PLC (EVR), COMPASS GROUP PLC (CPG) were hammered by 16.69%, 1.03% and 0.85% respectively.

Shares traded with high volume*: VODAFONE GRP. (VOD), LLOYDS GRP. (LLOY), and BARCLAYS PLC (BARC).

Top Sectors in the positive zone*: Technology (up 1.88%), Utilities (up 1.51%), and Energy (up 1.11%).

Sector in the negative zone*: Healthcare (-0.33%).

Forex Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were quoting at 1.2955 and 0.8430, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasuries yield was quoting at 1.583%, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was trading at 0.574%, respectively.
