Job Numbers Hold Steady Ahead of the COVID-19 Lockdown

As per Stats NZ, the job numbers remained steady during March 2020. The Covid-19 lockdown began at the end of the month when NZ moved to alert four restrictions at 11:59 pm on 25 March.

Economic statistics manager Sue Chapman said the employment indicator does not show any impact of the corona crisis on jobs.

He also added as the lockdown occurred during the last week of March, so the impact on this month's numbers is expected to be limiting. The effect will be calculated by averaging weekly jobs paid during March 2020.
