Hard-to-recycle plastic waste export will require a permit from 2021

The Associate Minister for the Environment, Eugenie Sage announced that the NZ government is committed to tackling the mounting waste problem and also participating in global efforts to reduce the environmental effects of these wastes. Hence, from 2021, permits will be required for kiwis wanting to export these wastes.

She said it is the requirement of NZ's commitments to the Basel Convention, a global deal of over 180 nations to regulate the plastic waste trade. Now all participating countries are implementing the decision in their respective countries.
