Nearly half a dozen crypto firms plan to run their ad campaigns on NBC Sports during the Super Bowl LVI match. The annual NFL championship playoff is America's most iconic cultural event. The crypto companies plan to capitalize on the event's massive popularity this year.

Crypto exchanges are spending top dollars to secure ad spots during Sunday's Super Bowl between Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams.

While requests for ad slots are still coming, NBC said it has run out of commercial time. The league has been dubbed "Crypto Bowl" as several Crypto firms join the commercials.

This year, NBC is charging as much as US$7 million for a 30-second slot, an increase of 27% YoY. It said that around 40% of this year's advertisers are new companies.

Among the firms, Coinbase Global, FTX, Crypto.com, and Bitbuy will also run their ads during the event. Coinbase is one of the largest US-based crypto exchanges. Others such as FTX and Crypto.com, also crypto exchanges, have also booked their commercial spot. Bitbuy, the Canada-based crypto exchange, will run its ad during the Canada broadcast.

Super Bowl ads typically come from companies with deep pockets. Internet and drug companies for erectile dysfunction had flooded the airwaves in the past. The crypto exchanges are the latest to join the bandwagon.

Celebrities joining crypto craze

Many celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather, Paris Hilton, former NBA star Paul Pierce, etc., have shown interest in digital currencies.

Some sports stars are also keen to receive their payments in cryptocurrency. For instance, in November 2021, quarterback for Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers tweeted that he would draw a part of his salary in Bitcoin. Rodgers has reportedly revealed that he signed up Square Inc's CashApp to convert an undisclosed amount of his salary into Bitcoin.

On Wednesday, Binance, another leading crypto exchange, posted a video on Twitter showing Miami Heat basketball star Jimmy Butler commenting that people will "hear some of the biggest names" asking them to get into cryptocurrencies.

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao is now the wealthiest crypto billionaire globally and ranks 15 among the world's richest people. He has a net worth of US$73.4 billion, excluding crypto cash.
