Highlights

  • ReconAfrica is making progress on its Naingopo exploration well, despite delays, with updates expected after further analysis of drilling logs and fluids.
  • The company is preparing for additional drilling efforts at its second exploration well in the Damara Fold Belt, with further seismic surveys planned in early 2025.
  • Environmental clearance has been granted for a 3D seismic survey, indicating continued exploration momentum in Namibia’s Kavango Rift Basin.

Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd., operating within the Oil & Gas sector, is making strides with its drilling efforts at the Naingopo exploration well in Namibia. The company’s ongoing activities are focused on Petroleum Exploration License 73 (PEL 73) in the promising Kavango Rift Basin, a region known for its potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. Recent updates from the company reveal both progress and challenges as drilling efforts continue, signaling important developments for stakeholders watching this space.

The Naingopo well, which began drilling earlier this year, has encountered delays due to slower-than-anticipated drilling rates in the deeper section of the Mulden formation. Challenges related to casing installation have also impacted the schedule, pushing the expected completion date further into October 2024. Despite these hurdles, ReconAfrica remains optimistic and plans to share results following a comprehensive evaluation of the logs and any fluids encountered during the drilling process. These results are anticipated to shed light on the potential hydrocarbon reservoirs within the region.

In addition to the ongoing work at Naingopo, Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (TSXV: RECO) has announced plans to drill a second well, Kambundu (Prospect P), within the Damara Fold Belt. Drilling for this well is scheduled to begin in late November or early December 2024, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its exploration footprint in the region. This upcoming project aims to explore additional reservoirs that may hold commercial hydrocarbon potential, further diversifying the company’s exploration opportunities.

As part of its broader exploration strategy, ReconAfrica has received environmental clearance to conduct a 3D seismic survey in early 2025. This survey will focus on further mapping the Kavango Rift Basin, which is believed to hold untapped reserves of hydrocarbons. The use of 3D seismic technology will enable the company to gain a clearer understanding of the subsurface geology, enhancing the precision of future drilling operations.

While progress at Naingopo has been slower than anticipated, the company is poised to continue its ambitious exploration agenda. The combination of ongoing drilling, upcoming exploration at Kambundu, and advanced seismic surveying in the Kavango Rift Basin indicates a comprehensive approach to unlocking the region’s potential. Each of these efforts adds to ReconAfrica’s growing inventory of prospects, positioning the company as a key player in Namibia’s energy sector.

ReconAfrica’s activities in Namibia represent a high-stakes opportunity within the energy exploration industry. The combination of significant potential rewards, along with the inherent risks of exploratory drilling, means that the company’s efforts will be closely watched by industry observers. However, with a strong focus on expanding exploration and securing environmental approvals, ReconAfrica continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing its operations in one of Africa’s most promising basins.

ReconAfrica’s ongoing and upcoming exploration activities in Namibia's Kavango Rift Basin offer multiple opportunities for discovery. The company's current and future drilling programs, along with its commitment to advanced seismic surveys, underline its strategic efforts to unlock the region's potential hydrocarbon reserves.
