Highlights

  • Comet Lithium reports promising findings from Mercator property.
  • Initial reconnaissance reveals lithium-rich pegmatite samples.
  • Further exploration planned following encouraging initial results.

Comet Lithium Corporation (TSXV:CLIC), a company in the mining sector, has revealed the results of its initial reconnaissance exploration program at its Mercator property. The property, situated in the James Bay region of Québec, has shown promising signs of lithium-bearing mineralization, prompting the company to plan further exploration.

Fieldwork Details and Findings

Comet Lithium collaborated with Dahrouge Geological Consulting to conduct the fieldwork, accompanied by the company’s vice president of exploration. The program, which took place over two days in June 2024, involved a combination of helicopter reconnaissance and ground traverses. The teams covered approximately 18 kilometers, focusing on three targeted areas identified during the helicopter survey.

During this exploration program, the teams observed numerous white pegmatite outcrops hosted within paragneisses. Among these, several samples contained black tourmaline and muscovite, minerals often associated with lithium deposits. A total of 15 outcrops and 26 boulders were sampled, with a specific focus on pegmatite formations. Out of these, five pegmatite samples (one outcrop and four boulders) were found to have promising characteristics, showing a potassium-to-rubidium ratio indicative of lithium presence.

Exploration Results and Next Steps

The initial reconnaissance highlighted three key areas within the Mercator property: the west, center, and north regions. These areas showed anomalous ratios and the right mineral assemblage, indicating fertile conditions for lithium discovery. Given these findings, Comet Lithium is optimistic about the property's potential. The company has planned additional fieldwork to further investigate and confirm the presence of lithium-rich zones in these targeted areas.

Comet Lithium expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of this initial program. The company emphasized that while this was a brief reconnaissance effort, the results were encouraging. Several outcrops displayed a suitable environment for lithium discovery, and the presence of minerals such as tourmaline and muscovite adds to the confidence in the property's potential. The company is preparing for further exploration activities to build upon these initial findings.

Positive Outlook for Comet Lithium’s Mercator Project

With these promising results, Comet Lithium’s focus remains on expanding its exploration efforts at the Mercator property. The company’s strategy includes comprehensive fieldwork aimed at validating and expanding the identified zones of interest. The outcome of these additional efforts could be pivotal in determining the extent and quality of lithium resources present.
