Theralase Technologies Inc., a company operating in the Healthcare sector, has provided a crucial update on its ongoing Phase 2 clinical study aimed at treating Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG)-Unresponsive Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC). The trial evaluates Ruvidar, a light-activated drug, in combination with the TLC-3200 Medical Laser System. This study is being conducted across multiple locations in Canada and the United States.
Significant Progress in Study Objectives
The company Theralase Technologies Inc. (TSXV:TLT) reports that the trial has enrolled 75 patients, with 68 of them having been fully evaluated so far. An interim analysis of the data revealed a major success, with 60.3% of patients achieving a complete response (CR) at some point during treatment. This exceeds the benchmark of 50%, which is set by international medical guidelines for treating this type of bladder cancer. The study also highlighted that 26.5% of patients maintained this complete response for an impressive 450 days.
Long-Term Efficacy and Safety Profile
In addition to the strong primary objective results, the treatment has shown encouraging long-term effects, with some patients sustaining complete responses for up to 1,080 days. The total response rate, which includes both complete and indeterminate responses, reached 72.1%. Importantly, the study confirmed a favorable safety profile, with no serious adverse events directly related to the treatment. These findings underscore Ruvidar’s potential to offer an effective, bladder-sparing treatment option for patients dealing with this difficult form of cancer.
As the study progresses, Theralase is looking to explore licensing and partnership opportunities to expand the global reach of Ruvidar. The company continues to focus on commercializing this innovative treatment, which could offer a significant improvement in the quality of life for patients with bladder cancer.
