Roots Corporation, the premium outdoor lifestyle brand known for its deep connection to nature, has announced an exciting three-year partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), effective September 2024. This collaboration marks a significant step for both organizations, united by their commitment to protecting Canada’s diverse habitats—including forests, wetlands, and shorelines—with the goal of fostering a more sustainable future for all.

In the first year of this partnership, Roots will lend its support to conservation efforts in the Frontenac Arch Natural Area, located in eastern Ontario, just north of Kingston. This region, recognized as one of Canada’s most biodiverse landscapes, plays a critical role in connecting the Canadian Shield to the Adirondack Mountains in New York. Designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 2002, the Frontenac Arch is home to a myriad of species, including black bears, moose, eastern wolves, and numerous bird species, making it a vital habitat corridor.

“Nature is at the heart of our brand,” stated Meghan Roach, President and CEO of Roots Corporation. “Since our inception in Algonquin Park in 1973, we have drawn inspiration from the natural world around us. This partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada is a natural evolution of our commitment to protecting the landscapes that inspire us. It reinforces our ethos and allows us to contribute actively to the conservation of Canada’s unique ecosystems.”

Roots Corporation’s collaboration with NCC aligns seamlessly with its core values of community, authenticity, and sustainability. The company has a rich history of engaging with various charitable partners, emphasizing the importance of creating positive change not just today but for future generations. By joining forces with NCC, Roots aims to enhance its impact on conservation efforts, addressing critical environmental needs while also advocating for the protection of Canada’s natural spaces.

Catherine Grenier, President and CEO of NCC, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting its potential to significantly accelerate conservation efforts. “This collaboration with Roots is an exciting step forward in our mission to protect Canada’s natural heritage,” she said. “Multi-year partnerships like this are essential for achieving successful conservation outcomes. Roots’ investment in nature will help build resilient ecosystems that can thrive for generations to come.”

Throughout this multi-year commitment, Roots will work closely with NCC to identify priority initiatives based on ongoing research and analysis. This partnership not only aims to protect existing habitats but also to connect conservation lands, ensuring safe pathways for species during their life cycles. By expanding community partnerships, the collaboration seeks to enhance conservation outcomes while prioritizing safe and accessible visitor experiences in these natural spaces.

NCC currently manages over 2,870 hectares of land and has contributed to protecting an additional 2,985 hectares in the Frontenac Arch. Through this partnership, Roots Corporation and NCC are poised to make a meaningful impact on Canada’s conservation landscape, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world while ensuring its preservation for future generations.

As both organizations move forward, they remain committed to celebrating and safeguarding Canada’s extraordinary biodiversity, working hand-in-hand to create a sustainable future where nature thrives alongside communities.
