TSX Hits New High In Intraday Trade, Aphria & Ballard Top Movers

The broader Canadian benchmark index, the S&P/TSX Composite, touched a new high of 18,711.4 on Tuesday, up 1.4% from the previous close. However, market cooled down in the later and settled 0.77% or 141.4 points higher at 18,599.19.

Healthcare and technology sector lead the gain, with TSX Healthcare Index moving 5.66% and TSX Technology Index climbing 4.3%. All the eight constituent sectors of the TSX settled in green.

Volume Leaders: Suncor Energy Inc. (31.4 mn), Manulife Financial Corporation (17.12 mn), and BCE Inc. (11.74mn).

On Wall Street: The Dow Jones Industrials settled 0.10% higher at 31,832.74, while the S&P 500 index moved 1.42% higher to 3,875.44. The Nasdaq Composite traded in green and surged 3.69% to 13,073.83.

 

Commodity Update

 

International Oil benchmark Brent Oil traded 1.06% lower to US$67.52/bbl, and American oil benchmark WTI Crude traded 1.6% lower at US$64.01/bbl.

Gold contract moved higher and reclaimed its US$1,700/oz level. It settled 2.32% higher at US$1,716.90/oz.

 

Money Market Update

 

Canada 10-Year Bond Yield declined 4.95% to 1.449%, and United Stated 10-Year Treasury declined by 4.67% to 1.528%.
