Shilpa Shetty gets relief in the Richard Gere obscenity case

* Shilpa Shetty, an actress in the Hindi film industry, a businesswoman and film producer has been formally cleared of obscenity 15 years after the Hollywood actor Richard Gere publicly kissed her at an event in Rajasthan, India. * Following the controversial public kiss, three cases were filed in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh against Gere and Shilpa. The duo was accused of ‘obscenity and indecency' and hurting the moral values of the country. * According to a report, the actress was booked under sections 292, which is imposed for the sale of obscene books, section 293 imposed for the sale of obscene objects and section 294 imposed for obscene acts and songs, of the Indian Penal Code. She was also charged in relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
