Southern Cross Gold Ltd (ASX:SXG) has identified a significant gold-antimony zone at its Sunday Creek Gold-Antimony project in Victoria. Drilling beneath the historic Golden Dyke mine revealed a mineralized zone measuring 135 meters, marking the third large mineralized body discovered by the company at the project.
This new find is situated beneath one of the region’s most historically productive mines. The discovery follows earlier exploration targets at the project’s other two mineralized zones—Rising Sun and Apollo—located 260 and 600 meters west of the new zone, respectively.
Drilling concentrated on seven high-grade vein sets across a 230-meter downhole interval with an estimated true width of 135 meters beneath the Golden Dyke area. The results were notable, with ten occurrences of visible gold, nine assayed intervals exceeding 20 grams per tonne, and a peak assay reaching 124 grams per tonne. In addition, ten antimony intervals showed grades over 5%, with a high of 31.5% Sb.
Broad downhole intercepts included 214.4 meters at 1.3 grams per tonne gold equivalent (AuEq) from 320.4 meters, with a higher-grade section of 94.5 meters at 2.3 g/t AuEq from 419.1 meters. The hole remains open both up and down dip, suggesting further potential for expansion.
The recent drilling is part of a broader exploration campaign, with nineteen holes currently undergoing analysis and five additional holes in progress. Southern Cross continues to focus on expanding the Sunday Creek system, which covers a substantial area and includes diamond drilling plans for 60 kilometers over the next year.
The Golden Dyke zone now stands alongside Rising Sun and Apollo as a key part of the project, each representing high-grade mineralized domains. The team's systematic drilling approach, targeting the primary dyke breccia structure, has led to these discoveries. The latest drilling, which includes SDDSC130, intersected seven high-grade vein sets over a 230-meter downhole interval, and the mineralization remains open in multiple directions.
The upcoming drill results from additional holes near the historic Christina mine are expected to provide further insights into the extent of the mineralization at Sunday Creek.
