Miramar Resources Ltd. (ASX:M2R) has commenced its maiden drilling program at the Bangemall Project in Gascoyne, Western Australia, supported by co-funding from the Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS). This initial drilling campaign marks a significant milestone for Miramar as it explores the potential of the Bangemall region. The EIS co-funding highlights the strategic importance of this project in advancing exploration efforts in the region.
Miramar Resources (ASX:M2R) Begins First Drilling Campaign for Nickel, Copper, and Cobalt in Northern WA with EIS Grant Support
Miramar Resources has initiated its maiden drilling program at the Bangemall project in Western Australia's Gascoyne region, targeting nickel, copper, and cobalt deposits. The drilling campaign is partially funded by the state government's Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS), recognizing the project’s focus on critical minerals, particularly nickel and cobalt.
The company is preparing to deploy RC drill rigs to investigate two key prospect areas: Trouble Bore and Mount Vernon. These sites were chosen based on electromagnetic survey data that suggests potential underground mineralization.
Miramar announced that it is the first company to target "Norilsk-style mafic intrusion-hosted nickel, copper, cobalt, and PGE mineralization within WA's Capricorn Orogen," referencing Russia’s Norilsk-Talnakh Mining District, a globally significant source of nickel and platinum group elements (PGE).
According to Executive Chairman Allan Kelly, the Edmund and Collier Basins, where the project is located, have been identified by GSWA, Geoscience Australia, and CSIRO as having all the key elements required for Norilsk-style mineralization, including major deep crustal structures and sulphide-rich sedimentary units.
“The EIS grant not only provides financial assistance but also validates Miramar’s geological model and targeting efforts. After three years of data collection and target development, we’re excited to begin our drilling campaign and put our concepts to the test,” said Kelly.
