Highlights

  • Tryptamine Therapeutics administers TRP-8803 to the first obese participant in a Phase 1b study.
  • Study explores pharmacokinetics differences between obese and non-obese participants.
  • Interim results expected this year to inform future trials and indications.

Tryptamine Therapeutics (ASX:TYP) has initiated a pivotal step in its clinical development by administering TRP-8803, a psilocin-based intravenous (IV) infusion, to the first participant from an obese population. ASX healthcare stock Tryptamine Therapeutics has launched an obesity-focused arm of its ongoing Phase 1b study. The 140-minute treatment with TRP-8803 aims to assess neuroplastic benefits, involving adaptive brain changes linked to clinical improvements.

The open-label study is being conducted at CMAX Clinical Research in Adelaide, with the goal of comparing pharmacokinetic parameters in obese participants to data previously collected from non-obese individuals. This additional obesity-focused element builds on the company's broader Phase 1 dataset. The study will include three obese participants, with two more set to receive dosing in the coming weeks.

Promising Progress in Psilocin-Based Research

TRP-8803 offers several advantages over oral psilocybin, including faster onset (under 20 minutes) and precise control over the psychedelic state’s depth and duration. The formulation’s potential applications include indications like Binge Eating Disorder and other weight-related conditions. Tryptamine Therapeutics believes this targeted study will yield cost-effective and valuable data for refining dosing rates across diverse populations.

The initial Phase 1 trial results, involving three cohorts, demonstrated positive outcomes regarding safety, optimal dosage, and infusion rates. These findings set the stage for broader applications in Phase 2 trials, which will explore specific indications for TRP-8803.

Expanding Research Horizons

Tryptamine Therapeutics aims to use the data from this study to design Phase 2 trials, focusing on weight-related indications and enhancing its dataset for future applications. CEO Jason Carroll emphasized the efficiency and value of the current trial, stating that it provides a significant opportunity to refine dosing strategies and expand the company’s reach across diverse population subsets.

With interim results anticipated this year, Tryptamine Therapeutics remains focused on advancing its psilocin research to achieve scalable health benefits. The company is actively assessing opportunities for Phase 2 trials and aims to release updates as progress unfolds.

The inclusion of an obesity-focused element highlights Tryptamine Therapeutics’ commitment to broadening the therapeutic potential of TRP-8803 while ensuring precise and effective dosing for diverse populations.
