Kinetiko Energy Ltd (ASX:KKO) is progressing its shallow conventional gas projects in South Africa, aimed at helping the country reduce its dependence on coal and imported energy. The company’s primary focus is the Mpumalanga Project, which has the potential to deliver substantial gas volumes, supporting South Africa’s transition to cleaner and more reliable energy sources.
Over the past year, Kinetiko Energy Ltd has completed a series of successful drilling and coring operations across two key blocks, ER272 and ER270. These operations consistently uncovered gas deposits, leading to significant advancements in the company's gas resource. As a result, Kinetiko has declared a contingent gas resource of 6 trillion cubic feet (TCF) and a maiden 2P gas reserve of 6.4 billion cubic feet (BCF). Despite these milestones, the declared resources represent just a small portion of the company’s total landholding.
Looking forward, Kinetiko Energy Ltd has planned a five-well production test program for Q4 of the coming year. This program will play a pivotal role in gathering essential data to refine the company’s production models. By securing stable gas flow rates, the company aims to move forward with commercial gas production in the near future.
Kinetiko has also showcased the commercial viability of its gas production through a collaboration with FFS Refiners. Together, they have successfully used a 1.2 MW gas generator, further demonstrating the potential of their gas resources. As part of its broader strategy, the company has plans to develop an LNG (liquefied natural gas) facility, targeting the delivery of its first LNG production cluster within the next 18 months.
This advancement positions Kinetiko Energy Ltd to play a vital role in South Africa’s energy landscape, potentially providing cleaner energy solutions as the country shifts away from its traditional reliance on coal.
