Nine Entertainment (ASX:NEC), Australia's largest media conglomerate, has announced the appointment of Matt Stanton as its new Chief Executive Officer. Stanton takes the helm after serving as the acting CEO for five months, following an extensive international search for the right leadership fit.

Nine Entertainment, known for its diverse media assets including the Nine Network, streaming service Stan, and publications such as The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Age, made the official announcement on Thursday. The company also operates leading radio stations like 2GB and 3AW, solidifying its presence across multiple media platforms.

Stanton first joined Nine Entertainment in 2022 as the Chief Strategy Officer and stepped into the interim CEO role when former CEO Mike Sneesby departed in September of last year. His professional background includes leadership roles across various industries, including a tenure as CEO of Barambah Organics and Bauer Media (now Are Media). Additionally, he held the position of Chief Transformation Officer at Woolworths (ASX:WOW), where he played a pivotal role in business optimization and strategic growth.

Nine Entertainment’s chairman, Catherine West, highlighted Stanton’s contributions in reshaping the executive team and refining the company’s operating model. His leadership has been instrumental in addressing internal cultural challenges that surfaced last year.

“Matt was clearly the best-credentialed leader to maintain the momentum on our strategic and cultural transformation,” said West. She emphasized his strategic mindset, commercial expertise, and leadership approach as key attributes for driving the company forward.

Under Stanton’s leadership, Nine Entertainment aims to reinforce its position in the Australian media landscape and explore new opportunities for expansion. Stanton outlined his vision for the company, stating his commitment to resetting and scaling the business in a competitive media environment.

“Nine is a great Australian company that plays a vital role in the national conversation. We have an exciting future, underpinned by the best people and assets in the media sector,” Stanton noted.

With an extensive track record in business transformation and media, Stanton’s leadership marks a significant chapter for Nine Entertainment (ASX:NEC) as it adapts to evolving industry trends and consumer demands. The company is expected to continue leveraging its strong media presence while embracing innovation to remain a dominant force in the sector.
