Highlights

  • Core Drilling Pty Ltd has been appointed to undertake a 3,000-metre RC drilling program at the Breakaway Dam Copper VMS Project.
  • Recent drilling and downhole EM surveys confirmed a copper-bearing sulphide system consistent with a VMS setting and identified multiple high-priority conductors.
  • The upcoming drilling program will test priority EM plates and assess along-strike and down-plunge extensions of the mineralised horizon.
  • Drilling is expected to begin before the end of February 2026.

Catalina Resources Limited (ASX:CTN) has taken the next step in advancing exploration at its Breakaway Dam Copper VMS Project in Western Australia, appointing Core Drilling Pty Ltd for an upcoming drilling campaign. The program follows recent drilling and geophysical work that confirmed the presence of a copper-bearing sulphide system consistent with a volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) setting, which provided a technical foundation for follow-up drilling. The program is designed to systematically test the extent and continuity of mineralisation.

Drilling is expected to commence before February end.

Initial 3,000m RC Drilling Program Scheduled

The initial drilling program will comprise nearly 3,000m of reverse circulation (RC) drilling, with mobilisation expected to occur imminently. The scope of the program may be expanded depending on results and specialist geological advice received as drilling advances.

The drilling campaign represents the next stage of exploration following confirmation of a copper-rich sulphide system during the 2025 exploration campaign.

Follow-Up Drilling to Target Priority EM Plates

The upcoming drilling program will focus on testing priority electromagnetic plates identified through modelling, particularly around the BDCDD2503 drill area. The planned drilling will include systematic step-out holes along strike to assess the continuity of the mineralisation target horizon.

The program is designed to test the centres of high-conductance targets that were previously untested or only partially tested. Follow-up DHEM surveying is planned as drilling progresses to further refine targets.

Copper VMS System Confirmed by Recent Work

Earlier drilling at Breakaway Dam confirmed that the minerals sit within a specific stratigraphic position. The minerals appear to be spread across several sulphide layers, shaped by both how they originally formed and subsequent structural processes.

An earlier diamond drilling program, supported by downhole electromagnetic (DHEM) surveys, intersected sulphide mineralisation and identified multiple high-conductance electromagnetic targets. Analysis of the DHEM data indicates that initial drill holes intersected the margins of conductive sulphide bodies rather than the core. Follow-up drilling hit sulphide-rich intervals which were pyrrhotite-heavy intervals with trace of chalcopyrite. These intervals provided further constraints on the geometry of the mineralised system.

With drill targets currently being finalised, Catalina Resources is preparing to commence follow-up drilling at Breakaway Dam before the end of February. The program marks a transition from system confirmation to a focused evaluation of priority sulphide targets identified through drilling and geophysical surveys. Results from the upcoming campaign are expected to provide further insights into the extent, geometry, and distribution of sulphide mineralisation across the Breakaway Dam Project.

CTN shares were trading 1.16% higher at AUD 0.087 per share at the time of writing on 9 February 2026.
