Advanced Energy Minerals Inc. (AEM) is making notable progress in its efforts to attain net carbon neutrality in the production of high-purity alumina (HPA) and aluminium derivatives. A recent independent report conducted by Optel reveals that AEM's carbon footprint for HPA is impressively below 0.8 kg CO2 equivalent per kg, which is less than 10% of the footprint associated with conventionally produced HPA.
This accomplishment solidly establishes the company as the alumina industry's most environmentally-friendly producer in terms of carbon emissions. The independently verified report highlights the following key findings:
- Scope 1 emissions: 0.00 kg CO2 equivalent per kg of alumina produced
- Scope 2 emissions: 0.06 kg CO2 equivalent per kg of alumina produced
- Scope 3 emissions: 0.70 kg CO2 equivalent per kg of alumina produced
These numbers signify a remarkable accomplishment, with AEM effectively demonstrating a negligible carbon footprint in its production operations. Mick Adams, CEO of AEM, emphasized the company's commitment to spearheading the green transition within the metal oxide sector. He stated, "We are determined to contribute to climate solutions that facilitate a lower-emissions future, and are actively developing a comprehensive roadmap to further reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in collaboration with our supply chain partners."
