Patriot Resources Limited (ASX:PAT) has announced a significant expansion of its exploration area at the Tonic prospect in Zambia. Newly completed ground magnetics and induced polarisation (IP) surveys have extended the prospective copper corridor approximately 5.5 kilometres southeast of the initial Tonic copper discovery. The company has pinpointed two fresh high-priority drill targets, Blocks 1 and 2, within the extensive Mumbwa–Kitumba mineralised corridor, highlighting the potential for a multi-centre copper system along a regionally rich structure already hosting major copper deposits.

Key Points

  • Patriot Resources Limited (PAT) holds a 100% owned mineral exploration licence in Mumbwa, Zambia, focusing on copper and polymetallic deposits.
  • Geophysical surveys have expanded the prospective area to about 5.5 kilometres southeast of the Tonic discovery, covering roughly 163 hectares.
  • Two new drill targets, Blocks 1 and 2, have been delineated within licence 27715-HQ-LEL, exhibiting hydrothermal alteration consistent with iron oxide copper gold (IOCG) mineralisation styles.
  • These targets lie 18 kilometres from Sinomine's Kitumba copper project, which includes processing and smelting facilities scheduled for commissioning in 2026, potentially providing infrastructure access for future development.
  • Initial reverse circulation (RC) drilling at Tonic confirmed copper-silver-zinc-cobalt mineralisation from surface, including intercepts of 17 metres at 0.41% copper and 1 metre at 2.56% copper, with the system remaining open at depth and along strike.
  • Investors should watch for upcoming drill testing of Blocks 1 and 2 to evaluate the continuity and grade of the interpreted multi-centre copper system.

Patriot Resources Broadens Exploration Along the Mumbwa Fault Zone in Zambia

Patriot Resources Limited has revealed a major increase in its exploration footprint at the Tonic prospect, situated within licence 27715-HQ-LEL in Mumbwa, Zambia. Recent geophysical surveys, including ground magnetics and induced polarisation, have extended the prospective copper corridor approximately 5.5 kilometres southeast from the original Tonic discovery, now covering about 163 hectares. This expansion marks a crucial advancement in the company’s copper exploration strategy within one of Zambia’s established mineralised corridors, underscoring the scale potential of the broader Mumbwa–Kitumba mineralised system.

The newly identified targets, Blocks 1 and 2, are aligned along the northwest-southeast trending Mumbwa Fault Zone (MFZ), the same structural corridor hosting Sinomine’s nearby Kitumba deposit. Both targets exhibit hydrothermal alteration linked to intrusive granite-syenite units and host sediments, consistent with iron oxide copper gold (IOCG) mineralisation styles. This geological signature aligns with the regional setting and enhances the prospectivity of these targets for forthcoming drill testing.

Distinct Copper Targets: Block 1 and Block 2 Defined by Geophysical and Geological Data

Block 1 is interpreted as a syenite-hosted target showing hydrothermal alteration and strong induced polarisation (IP) chargeability anomalies that coincide with northeast-southwest to east-west magnetic lineaments. The company reports that high chargeability anomalies paired with low magnetic responses suggest the presence of sulphide-bearing shear zones within altered syenite. This target offers potential for structurally controlled copper-silver sulphide shoots, representing a unique exploration opportunity within the expanded corridor. Field mapping during the surveys supports the alteration styles and structural controls inferred.

Block 2 features a syenite-sandstone/shale geological setting with iron-rich alteration, quartz-carbonate veining, and signs of hydrothermal fluid flow. Multiple coherent northwest-southeast IP anomalies align with high magnetic zones and interpreted structural corridors, some extending across several survey lines. The company notes anomaly widths ranging from 20 to 60 metres and depths reaching approximately 160 metres, indicating a potentially broader mineralised footprint. Block 2 is interpreted as an IOCG-style copper-silver-cobalt mineralised corridor, with cross-cutting northeast-southwest and northwest-southeast structures providing favourable sites for fluid focusing and mineralisation.

Geophysical Survey Insights Support Multi-Centre Copper System Hypothesis

The recently completed ground magnetics and induced polarisation surveys underpin the extension of the exploration area and identification of Blocks 1 and 2 as drill targets. Ground magnetics have delineated strong magnetic lineaments, contacts, and iron alteration zones, while IP surveys revealed coincident high chargeability and resistivity anomalies indicative of sulphide mineralisation. Combining these geophysical methods with field mapping and alteration observations has enabled Patriot Resources to define targets with enhanced confidence.

The multiple anomalies forming distinct trends strengthen the interpretation of a significant mineralised system. Several anomalies extend 20 to 60 metres wide and reach depths of up to 160 metres, crossing multiple survey lines and implying continuity beyond surveyed zones. This geophysical consistency supports the prioritisation of Blocks 1 and 2 for drilling and reinforces the company’s view of these as high-potential copper targets warranting further exploration.

Structural Controls and Regional Context: The Fertile Mumbwa Fault Zone Copper Corridor

Patriot Resources’ targets lie directly along the Mumbwa Fault Zone, a northwest-southeast trending regional structure known for copper mineralisation over a broad area. Approximately 18 kilometres northwest of Tonic is Sinomine’s Kitumba deposit, estimated at 109.2 million tonnes grading 0.96% copper, demonstrating the regional structure’s capacity to host large copper resources. Another target, Target H, containing copper-cobalt mineralisation, is located about 7 kilometres northwest along the same structural corridor, further confirming the Mumbwa Fault Zone’s mineral potential.

The intersection of northeast-southwest and northwest-southeast structures at Blocks 1 and 2 creates favourable conditions for fluid concentration, brecciation, and higher-grade mineralised shoots. Both targets feature intrusive granite-syenite in contact with sandstone and shale, with evidence of structurally focused hydrothermal alteration typical of mineralised systems. This combination of regional structural control, local complexity, and geophysical signatures positions these targets within a highly prospective copper corridor in Zambia.

Tonic Discovery Validated with Polymetallic Mineralisation Confirmed

Patriot Resources’ maiden reverse circulation drilling at Tonic confirmed copper-silver-zinc-cobalt mineralisation from surface, laying the groundwork for the expanded exploration programme. Notable intercepts include 17 metres at 0.41% copper, 4.7 g/t silver, and 0.30% zinc from 29 metres in hole TBRC03, and 1 metre at 2.56% copper, 62.3 g/t silver, and 0.76% zinc from 55 metres in the same hole. High-grade copper was also intersected at depth, including 1 metre at 1.44% copper at 145 metres in TBRC10 and 1 metre at 1.69% copper in TBRC14, confirming vertical continuity.

The drilling also intersected broad cobalt-bearing intervals, such as 19 metres at 0.010% cobalt from 48 metres in TBRC04 and 13 metres at 0.014% cobalt from 143 metres in TBRC02, enhancing the polymetallic nature and economic potential of the Tonic prospect. With mineralisation open at depth and along strike, and much of the induced polarisation footprint undrilled, the discovery’s scale potential is further extended by Blocks 1 and 2.

Strategic Infrastructure Nearby: Sinomine’s Kitumba Project Set for 2026 Commissioning

A key advantage for Patriot Resources’ exploration is its proximity to Sinomine’s Kitumba copper project, located about 18 kilometres northwest along the Mumbwa Fault Zone. Kitumba includes processing and copper smelting facilities scheduled for commissioning in 2026. This nearby infrastructure could provide a valuable pathway for ore processing if Patriot’s discoveries progress to development, reducing the need for new infrastructure investment.

The company describes this as "a rare potential infrastructure pathway in close proximity to an early-stage discovery," highlighting the strategic value of the location. However, any future development will depend on successful drilling, resource definition, economic studies, and regulatory approvals in Zambia. While the infrastructure presence offers optionality, it does not guarantee project advancement.

Upcoming Plans: Drill Testing and Further Geophysical Analysis

Patriot Resources aims to validate the multi-centre copper system concept extending southeast from Tonic through drill testing of Blocks 1 and 2. The company has not yet disclosed specific drilling timelines or budgets, with investors awaiting further updates. Most of the induced polarisation footprint at Tonic remains untested, and the addition of Blocks 1 and 2 broadens the exploration pipeline within the licence area.

Investors should monitor forthcoming announcements detailing drill program design, timing, and results. Successful drill outcomes will be critical to confirming the geophysical interpretations and establishing commercial copper mineralisation. Additional geophysical work, such as infill surveys or 3D modelling, may also be conducted to refine targets before or after drilling. Patriot’s exploration approach combines geophysics and field mapping to guide methodical targeting.

Regulatory and Operational Context for Copper Exploration in Zambia

Patriot Resources holds a 100% owned exploration licence 27715-HQ-LEL in Zambia, a leading copper-producing country with a well-established regulatory framework for mineral exploration and development. Zambia’s mining history provides technical expertise and infrastructure, but exploration activities must comply with local regulations, environmental assessments, and community engagement requirements as projects advance.

Operating within a proven copper district along the Mumbwa Fault Zone, where multiple significant deposits exist, reduces geological risk compared to early-stage exploration in untested areas. Nonetheless, exploration risk remains high, as geophysical anomalies and surface mineralisation do not guarantee economic resources. Investors should recognize inherent exploration uncertainties, and that regulatory, permitting, and operational factors in Zambia may affect project progress.
