TOKYO (Reuters) - The number of foreign visitors to Japan in October, when the country reopened its borders to tourists for the first time in over two years, climbed to 498,600 from 206,500 in September, Japan National Tourism Organization data showed on Wednesday.
The figure, which includes both business and tourist arrivals, surged 2,155% compared to October 2021 but was down 80% on 2019, the last year before the pandemic, when a record 31.8 million people visited Japan.
