It could be because investors may have rushed to scoop its shares after a regulatory filing revealed that AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) had taken a 6.8% stake in National CineMedia.

National CineMedia owns around 47% of National CineMedia, LLC, which runs the US’ largest cinema advertising network.

Revival of movie business favouring CineMedia

After the Covid-induced lull, the movie business is slowly picking up. This investment comes after AMC’s improving financial health and results. Movie theatres are now fully operational and witnessing 100% footfall. Investors are considering this investment as a positive signal and want to explore the stock.

The movie business is on its track because Covid-19 restrictions have been eased and people are flocking to the cinemas to enjoy their favorite stars. The spectacular success of releases like the Marvel movie Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, which earned close to US$700 million globally within the first couple of weeks, has given a huge boost to companies and studios linked to show business.

The National CineMedia has a market cap of US$ 113.23 million and a forward one-year P/E ratio of -14.50. Its EPS is US$-0.67.

The 52-week highest and lowest stock prices were US$5.37 and US$1.37, respectively. Its trading volume was 3,223,574 on May 17.

On the other hand, AMC Entertainment has a market cap of US$6.65 billion, and a forward one-year P/E ratio of -12.17. Its EPS is US$-2.06.

The 52-week highest and lowest stock prices were US$72.62 and US$9.70, respectively. Its trading volume was 38,183,480 on May 17.

AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. reported its first-quarter results ended March 31, 2022, on May 9th. Even National CineMedia, Inc. reported its fiscal first-quarter 2022 earnings the same day.
