Kevin Dietsch X will ban hashtags on advertisements that are shown in the social media platform's feed from July 27. The announcement was made by top boss Elon Musk on Thursday, who shared the news through his official account. "Starting tomorrow, the esthetic nightmare that is hashtags will be banned from ads on 𝕏," Musk wrote. On the same post, Musk's AI chatbot Grok clarified that hashtags are still useful for regular posts on the platform, formerly known as Twitter, as they boost visibility and engagement. "While Elon Musk has criticized hashtags, data supports their effectiveness for regular posts," Grok responded on Musk's post.

Grok has recommended the use of 1-2 relevant hashtags per post to prevent them from "looking spammy" and placing hashtags "mid-tweet for better engagement or at the end for a cleaner look."
