American Honda (HMC, Financials) reported a 3.8% year-over-year increase in sales for January, delivering 96,774 units despite winter weather disruptions and supply challenges due to the temporary shutdown of two Ohio auto plants. The business listed record light truck and electric vehicle sales as main drivers of its expansion. In January, Honda brand sales came out at 88,083 units, 4.1% over a year ago. Hybrid demand drove sales of electrified vehicles to a record 29,762 units. The CR-V and Accord had a 55% hybrid sales mix; Civic hybrid sales topped 34%.

The electric vehicle Prologue tracked 3,744 units sold. With 27,280 units in January, the CR-V remained Honda's most sold vehicle. Sales of light trucks, at 62,245 units, established a January record. Up 15.1% from a year before, the Pilot sold 8,849 units; TrailSport variants accounted for 18% of sales. January sales of 11,817 units were recorded by HR-V.

Top sold in its category, the Odyssey minivan grew 10.8% year over year. Before the 2026 Honda Passport model was introduced, Passport sales increased more than 20%. With 16,173 units sold, the Civic led Honda's passenger vehicles in January. Sales under the Acura brand were at 8,691 cars, a 0.6% year-over-year rise. Despite factory retooling at the East Liberty Auto factory in preparation for future electric car manufacturing, Acura SUV sales jumped 17.9% to 6,944 units.

The MDX sold 2,966 units, while the RDX achieved 2,594 units in January sales. With over 1,300 units sold, the all-electric ZDX had its second-best month ever. At the Marysville Auto Plant, the Integra dominated its sector with 1,393 units sold despite plant retooling. As it gets ready for the spring release of the new Acura ADX SUV, the firm said it anticipates ongoing progress. This article first appeared on GuruFocus.
