  • Bellevue Gold shares drop after major shareholder reduces stake
  • Van Eck offloads 1.47% holding, remains significant investor
  • Share price under pressure following January guidance cut

Shares of gold miner Bellevue Gold (ASX:BGL) came under pressure in early trade, falling as much as 7.2% to $1.23 after a substantial stake was reduced by one of its key institutional investors. The move has drawn market attention, particularly following a challenging start to the year for the company.

An ASX filing revealed that Van Eck Associates, a New York-based investment manager and one of the largest stakeholders in Bellevue, sold approximately 18 million shares—representing a 1.47% holding. Despite this sale, Van Eck remains a significant shareholder with a 7.59% interest in the company.

The timing of the transaction coincides with a broader period of weakness in Bellevue’s stock performance. In January, the company revised its full-year production guidance downward after reporting weaker-than-expected output and sales in the December quarter. That update had already put the share price under pressure, and the recent stake reduction appears to have further weighed on sentiment.

While stake adjustments by institutional investors are not uncommon, they tend to prompt heightened scrutiny when they follow operational downgrades or periods of volatility. In this case, Van Eck’s move has sparked renewed discussion about the near-term outlook for Bellevue and its ability to recover momentum in production and investor confidence.

The gold sector, in general, has experienced mixed sentiment recently, driven by fluctuations in global gold prices and cost pressures across mining operations. For companies like Bellevue, which is transitioning from development into steady production, investor expectations remain tightly linked to operational delivery and future guidance updates.

As the company works to stabilise production and improve consistency in its performance, attention will likely turn to upcoming quarterly results and any revisions to outlook statements. These updates could provide clearer signals on whether Bellevue can navigate the recent challenges and reinforce confidence in its growth strategy.

Bellevue remains a noteworthy name among ASX-listed gold players, and movements in its shareholder base, particularly from large institutions, will continue to be closely monitored by the market.
