 Market Update: How Equity Markets of Australia Performed?

On 9th April 2020, the Australian equity market closed in green and the S&P/ASX200 stood at 5387.3, reflecting the gain of 3.46% on an intraday basis. Most of the sectors at the end of the session were in green such as S&P/ASX 200 Consumer Discretionary (Sector), which went up by 87.1 points to 2,051.3. S&P/ASX 200 Industrials (Sector) rose by 5.15% and closed at 5,202.7. At the close of same day, All Ordinaries was up by 180.6 points and settled at 5439.4.

Let us now look at the top gainers on ASX. Perenti Global Limited (ASX: PRN) increased by 27.642% to $0.785. oOh!media Limited (ASX: OML) marked the closing at $0.760, reflecting an increase of 19.685%.

S&P/NZX50 went down by 0.68% to 9,964 at the close of session on 9th April 2020. Hallenstein Glasson Holdings Limited (NZX: HLG) surged 20.97% to NZ$3.750. Serko Limited (NZX: SKO) ended at NZ$2.300 with the gain of 17.95%. On the other hand, New Talisman Gold Mines Limited (NZX: NTL) experienced a sharp fall of 14.29% to NZ$0.006.

Perenti Global Limited Rose 27.642% on 9th April 2020

Perenti Global Limited (ASX:PRN) recently announced that National Australia Bank Limited and its associated entities have become an initial substantial holder in the company with voting power of 6.664%. PRN also notified the market with the decision for deferral of 1H FY20 interim dividend of 3.5 cents and has reinstated Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRP). This reflects focus of PRN on capital and liquidity management during this uncertain time. The company possesses a strong liquidity position, which comprises of cash reserves of around $305 million and undrawn revolving credit facilities of around $100 million at the end of March 2020. As a result of uncertainties from COVID-19, Perenti has suspended its underlying NPAT(A) guidance.

oOh!media Limited Ended in Green on Australian Stock Exchange

oOh!media Limited (ASX:OML) recently made an announcement that Macquarie Group Limited and its controlled bodies corporate have made a change to their substantial holdings with current voting power coming at 5.15% as compared to the previous voting power of 7.30%. The company has also been notified that HT&E Limited has acquired at least 11 million OML shares, which reflects 1.8% of the issued capital of OML after equity raising. OML added that the purchase of its shares by other participant in the media sector of Australia reflects the strategic value of its assets.

Allan Gray Australia Pty Ltd and its related bodies corporate have changed the substantial holdings in OML with the current voting power of 6.48% versus prior voting power of 5.26%. The company has decided to defer its 2020 Annual General Meeting till 4th June 2020 due to COVID-19.
