VRX Silica Limited (ASX: VRX) has reported a major step towards determining the potential for downstream processing from its high-grade Muchea Silica Sand Project.
In a major development, the company airfreighted a 1,000kg sample of selected sand from its Muchea project to Germany for specialist comminution testwork.
The program is aimed at determining the potential yield, quality, and power requirements for delivering a suitable silica flour for use in LCD glass manufacturing. The results would also inform equipment selection for purchase of high-grade silica flour pilot plant.
A German-based specialist test facility is undertaking comminution and grinding tests. The results would help the ASX-listed company with equipment list and process design for a silica flour pilot plant.
VRX secured AU$2 million in matched funding in July this year under a state government program for the construction of a pilot plant for High Purity Quartz (HPQ) flour.
Over the years, demand for HPQ flour has been on the rise. Currently, silica flour is priced at up to US$255t.
VRX believes that the coarse material at Muchea is suitable and will produce a high yield of suitable silica flour.
VRX shares traded at AU$ 0.105 midday on 15 November 2023.
