Air New Zealand Limited (NZX:AIR) (ASX:AIZ) recently made an announcement about its upcoming annual meeting.

It has been announced that the meeting should be held virtually, like several other Companies have conducted across the country, considering the lockdown that the country is currently placed under, owing to fresh threats rising from the swift spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Annual Meeting 2021

The meeting is scheduled to be held on 28 October 2021, virtually, for the shareholders, and several important matters about the functioning of the business are to be discussed here.

One of the most important resolutions of the business that are going to be discussed is the appointment of directors.

Resolutions to be passed for the election of the following:

Claudia Batten is one of the candidates in the race to directorship. She currently holds positions like Westpac Digital advisor and Director for Vista Group and shall bring about a lot of global exposure and experience to the table.

Allisson Gerry is also in the race to directorship. She currently holds Director’s position with the likes of Infratil Limited and ANZ Bank New Zealand. With her capital management and governance experience, she will be an asset to the Company’s Board.

Paul Goulter, who holds the position of National Secretary for NZEI besides others, has over 40 years of vital experience in unions for both New Zealand and Australia and shall be a valuable addition to the Company’s Board.

It is to be seen in the meeting how many votes each of these candidates secure and whether they all make the Board as Directors.

Update about the Trans-Tasman closure impact

The Company has been making regular updates about how the Domestic lockdown has impacted the financial performance through past weeks.

While the previous earnings guidance was suspended as of 26 August 2021, it remains unclear how much the suspension of the Trans-Tasman bubble shall actually affect the business of the Company in the long run.

With the Delta Variant cases on the rise, it is uncertain that how much more time the lockdown shall be in place, and when international borders shall reopen.
