According to Katrina Dewbery, commodity prices manger, tomato prices have been particularly poor over the last 3 months. Tomatoes NZ reported there was an abundance of it in the domestic market, as farmers failed to get their tomatoes shipped due to a lack of freight and growing shipping costs amid COVID-19.
Ms Dewbery stated that tomato growers were undergoing a lot of ambiguity about exports, which was affecting their schedule for replantation of tomato crops. From a WAP of $3.80 per kilo a year before, tomato prices have risen by 67% in April.

The rise in prices was partly compensated by reduced Kiwifruit prices, which were down by 28% last month. Kiwifruit is a strongly seasonal crop, with prices peaking in March as the season draws to a close.
