SNAPSHOT OF AUSTRALIA'S RUGBY LEAGUE MEN'S WORLD CUP FINAL WIN OVER SAMOA:-

*Result: Australia beat Samoa 30-10 in front of 67,502 fans at Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester.

*Key stats: The Kangaroos have now won their ninth global title in the last 10 editions of the World Cup, and their 12th in all out of 16 tournaments. They were unbeaten in six matches, amassing 286 points and conceding just 42 - an average victory margin of over 40 points a game. They remain unbeaten in finals on English soil, with this their seventh triumph.

*Key moments: After Samoa had camped near the Australian line for an extended period seeking a riposte to Latrell Mitchell's opener, their chances, if not their spirit, took a near-fatal blow when Josh Addo-Carr sliced through four fairly flimsy challenges in midfield to put his captain James Tedesco in for a score. Similarly, in the second-half after Angus Crichton's sin-binning, they held up the Samoan charge with 12 men before Cameron Munster relieved the pressure with a steal and Nathan Cleary's perfect pass soon put Cam Murray away for the decisive short-handed score.

*Star player: James Tedesco's proud day as he joined the illustrious list of Australia's World Cup-winning skippers was marked by a stellar performance, capped by a couple of searing tries, including his nerve-settler 12 minutes from time. The most tries (2), the most metres gained (202), the most tackle busts (8), the most runs (20) ... talk about leading from the front.

*Talking point: Instead of his 10-minute penalty, should Crichton have actually been sent off for the forearm that ended the game - and perhaps the career - of the influential Chanel Harris-Tavita, who's now due to take a sabbatical from the sport?

*What they said: "It's a team full of superstars. We knew we had the individual brilliance, and it was about bonding as a team. We got better and better each game and this was probably our best performance." - James Tedesco.
