Airtel Africa is a publicly traded telecommunication and mobile money service provider based in United Kingdom. It is a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel Ltd., which is the second largest mobile network operator in India and third largest service provider in terms of subscribers globally. Airtel Africa operates in 14 countries of Africa, predominantly in East Africa, Central and West Africa.
Airtel Africa offers telecommunication services nationally and internationally, which includes Mobile Voice, mobile data, Airtel Money, and other services. Mobile voice, which is highest contributor in terms of revenue, allows pre- and post-paid wireless voice services, international call and fixed-line telephone services to its subscribers. The mobile data business offers 2G, 3G and 4G data services and other value-added services. The Airtel Money segment partners with the local financial institution (Western Union, MasterCard, Ecobank) to provide mobile services which enables customers to send and receive money, pay bills, deposits, and withdraw through a linked bank account and make cashless payments and withdrawals.
Also, Airtel partners with third party loan providers to offer micro loans to its customers in a few easy steps. All these services are accessible 24X7 through its online mobile app to its customers. The group serves 14.2 million customers via Airtel money. Other services include fixed line telephony, data centers and broadband.
Airtel Africa has 22,909 network towers, 47,082 mobile broadband base stations, and over 43,000 km of fiber across the African market. There are 110.6 million active customers, of which 35.4 million are data customers and 18.3 million were active Airtel Money customers. The company has a strong team of more than 3,300 employees.
