Imperial Oil Limited is a leading Canadian integrated energy company that operates on all levels, from exploring oil and gas resources to refining and marketing petroleum products.

Sixteen refiners formed the energy company from southwestern Ontario in 1880. Since then, the company has expanded its business to include a diversified portfolio of assets, including oil sands, refineries, petrochemicals, producing wells, a central processing facility, pipelines, etc.

Headquartered in Calgary, the company is said to be one of the largest oil refiners in the country.

Imperial Oil operations consist of:
• Cold Lake: It is said to be the largest thermal in situ site in the world, spread in 300 squares miles.
• Kearl mining: The company has a majority per cent stake in this mine.
• Syncrude mining: It is a joint venture partnership between major Canadian energy companies, where Imperial Oil is said to have a 25 per cent stake.
• Strathcore refinery: The refinery provides fuels and products, including diesel, gasoline, motor oils, aviation fuel etc.
• Chemicals: The company produces naphtha intermediates, polyethylene, vinyl intermediates and aromatics.
• Fuels and lubricants: Covers an extensive retail network through Esso and Mobil.
• Edmonton rail terminal: It is a joint venture crude oil loading facility.

The Canadian company provides over 650 petroleum products and services essential to consumers and businesses like gasoline, diesel, heating oil, natural gas, lubricants across North America.

The company's Sarnia Products Pipeline transports gasoline, diesel and jet fuel across Hamilton Area, Greater Toronto and Toronto Pearson Airport.

As part of its sustainable approach, Imperial Oil reportedly achieved a 20 per cent greenhouse (GHG) emissions intensity reduction in operated oil sands.

In 2019, the company recorded a 0.25 total recordable incident rate.

The Canadian energy firm said that it has reduced flaring at upstream operations by 30 per cent since 2016.

As part of its decommission and remediation approach, the company claims to put 107 surplus properties to productive use. Imperial Oil also reportedly planted 1.4 million trees at Cold Lake and Kearl.
