Metro (TSX: MRU) is among the largest retailers in Canada and has footprints in food and pharmacy business. In 2018, the company acquired Canadian drugchain Jean Coutu Group, adding 650 pharmacies to its network of 950 food and grocery stores. Metro has an array of business models, but mostly acts as either a retailer, distributor, franchisor, operator of individual stores, licensing its trademarks and supplying merchandise to franchisees. The company house banners such as Metro, Metro Plus, Super C, and Food Basics, while its pharmacies primarily operate under the Jean Coutu and Brunet trademarks.
