In February 2013, Champion Iron conducted a feasibility study that indicated the average iron ore production through the Consolidated Fire Lake North (CFLN) project in the center of Fermont Iron Ore District (FIOD) would yield 9.3 million tons annually. The production is expected to yield 66 per cent iron ore concentrates during a 20-year mine life.
The company acquired Bloom Lake Mine and rail assets from Cliffs Natural Resources Inc on April 11, 2016.
In February 2018, the first shipment of 16,500 metric tons of iron concentrates was shipped via train from Bloom Lake Iron Ore Mine for Sept-Îles, the company claims.
On August 16, 2019, the mining firm acquired a 100 per cent stake in the Bloom Lake project.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company claimed to have implemented a triple-check safety plan consisting of guidelines for social distancing, new transportation logistics and mandatory safety rules applied to workers and contractors.
