In 1980, ATCO acquired the Canadian Utilities Ltd with a 58.1 per cent stake from a Philadelphia-based utility firm. At present, the ATCO group has a 52.3 per cent interest in Canadian Utilities Ltd.
The energy transmission firm’s global operations include:
• Mexico: Through ATCO Energia and ATCO Mexico, the Canadian company participates in Mexico’s energy market by supplying electricity, operating energy generation facilities, and building energy infrastructure network for the residents.
• Alberta: The Canadian firm delivers clean-burning natural gas, reliable electricity and consumer-centric energy options to different customers.
• North Canada: The company says it has been operating in Yukon and Northwest territories since 1901. It operates through ATCO Electric Yukon and Northland Utilities Ltd in the two territories, respectively.
• Australia: Through ATCO Australia, the firm provides logistics solutions, energy infrastructure, natural gas transmission, transportation services, etc., to Australian customers.
• Puerto Rico: Canadian Utilities Ltd owns a 50 per cent stake in LUMA, an energy company in Puerto Rico. The company, along with LUMA and Quanta Services, will reportedly develop electricity transmission system in Puerto Rico over a term of 15 years.
Since 2016, ATCO claims to provide sustainable water management solutions in Alberta’s industrial heartland.
