Southern Copper Corporation (SCCO) is a Mexican mining company. The integrated company mainly deals with production of copper.

In addition to copper, the mining firm also engages in the exploration, development, and production of other metals and products as well, such as:

The Mexican mining firm operates as an indirect subsidiary of Grupo Mexico and functions in three different segments:

• Mexican Underground Mining
• Peruvian Operations
• Mexican Open-Pit Copper Mines

Peruvian Operations

The segment consists of two producing mines in Peru, namely Toquepala Mine and Cuajone Mine. It is engaged in the operations of smelting and refining the metals through its processing in the mining property. In addition, the property also consists of infrastructure such as industrial railroad and port facilities connecting to the mines.

Mexican Open-Pit Operations

The segment of the mining firm also caters to operations at the two mines: La Caridad mine and Buenavista mine. This segment focuses on the smelting and refining of the metals obtained from these mines. In addition, it includes metal plants as well as a copper rod plant and has supportive facilities that serve both of the mines reportedly.

Mexican Underground Mining Operations

The segment, known as also known as IMMSA, consists of five underground mines in Mexico. These mines produce a range of metals such as zinc, copper, silver, and gold. The operations also include a zinc refinery facility.

The company, founded in 1952, is 88.91 per cent owned by Americas Mining Corporation. The mining firm also claims to produce lead, coal, and silver.

The mineral exploration firm has all the business operations, including mining, smelting, and refining and related infrastructure, in Mexico and Peru. In addition, it also explores for mineral properties in Chile.

The mining firm went public in 1996 with its debut on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The trading symbol for the firm’s stocks are 'SCCO'.

In addition to NYSE, its stocks trade on the Lima Stock Exchange with ‘SCCO’ stock quote.

The Mexico-based mining firm is among the Russell 1000 components.
