Emerging mining-sector focused investment company, BWA Group has a team of industry experts at its helm who bring in the specialised skills and experience necessary to progress the company’s investments in Canada and Cameroon.
The management of the company is regulated through a group of dedicated Directors who are committed to maintaining high standards of corporate governance in compliance with the UK Corporate Governance Code. Risk management issues are also addressed by the Directors as a whole. The Board has also established an Audit Committee, chaired by Alex Borrelli and a Remuneration Committee chaired by James Butterfield.
Let’s take a detailed look at the BWA’s management.
BWA Group is led by a well-qualified Chartered Accountant Richard Battersby, who holds more than 35 years of experience in and around the venture capital industry. Richard has worked for The Royal Bank of Scotland and has been a core part of a management team for a motor distribution group based in Sheffield, England. That company made several successful acquisitions under the leadership of Mr Battersby, including entry to the stock market through a reverse takeover of a coach manufacturing company.
Over the period of time, Richard moved to develop his own venture capital business, mainly using his own capital and became a director of several listed and unlisted companies in the process, including Rensburg AIM VCT plc. In 1996, Richard moved to Guernsey while retaining an interest in several businesses in the UK and in Europe.
James Butterfield joined BWA with over 30 years of experience in mergers and acquisition, stock market listing and management of leading businesses. In 1969, James joined 3i Plc as Local Director and Area Manager in which he managed a portfolio of over 200 unlisted investments. After leaving 3i he has specialised in advising small to medium-sized companies on a range of matters while later he accepted the role of Director in an AIM quoted sports marketing and management business, Essentially Group Ltd. James’ active involvement in Essentially Group became the foundation for the early development of the company, which is now one of the world's largest Rugby Union and Cricket player management businesses.
Michael Alexander Borrelli
Pioneer in the investment banking sector, Alex Borrelli qualified as a CA (Chartered Accountant) with Deloitte, London in 1982. With roots of academia in the medicine field, Alex gradually became an expert in the financial sector, taking up a range of corporate transactions in a senior role for over 20 years. He has played a major role in a wide variety of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, flotations, takeovers for private and listed companies.
Currently, Alex continues to be in the role of Chairman and a Non-Executive Director of several listed, and private companies including Greatland Gold Plc and Xpediator Plc listed on AIM.
In a release dated 8 June 2020, BWA Group announced an appointment of James Hogg as a non-Executive Director of the company. With over 20 years of experience in the mining sector of different geographies, James work as a Principal Geologist and Managing Director of an independent mining consulting and technical advisory business- Addison Mining Services. For the past year, BWA has already been getting advice from him on its Cameroon rutile sands project and recently he had been advising on the Canadian assets as well.
The strategically planned growth of BWA Group thus seems to be the result of leadership and experience brought in by the industry experts standing at the forefront of company’s management. As the BWA Group develops, the Board has been closely eyeing the requirements of the business to establish required committees along with incorporating financial controls and reporting procedures, which are considered appropriate given the size and structure of the company.
