NZD 1.4 million for Digital Connectivity of Urban Marae

NZ Government has provided additional NZD 1.4 million to connect marae across the country to internet. The program will help to expand the digital connectivity of urban marae.

The fund is announced today by Economic Development Minister Shane Jones. It is an additional of NZD 21 million announced in February 2019. The program gets funding through the Provincial Growth Fund (PGF).

Digital connectivity became essential while New Zealanders were restricted at alert level 4 as they needed the internet to continue education, work, shop, bank, pay bills and keep in touch with loved ones. It is crucial for economic recovery, said Shane Jones.
