Foreign Minister applauds New Zealand’s COVID-19 international response

Winston Peters, the Foreign Minister of New Zealand, has praised the efforts of New Zealand’s consular officials and diplomats in assisting New Zealand handle the global COVID-19 crisis.

  • Since this crisis hit, MFAT staff have been working 24/7 to ensure Kiwis stranded offshore get the support they need;
  • In the last three months, MFAT has provided consular advice to 4,500 New Zealanders, compared to 700 in the same period last year.

He also noted that the Government had taken a calculated and reciprocal method to deportations of New Zealanders left abroad and of foreign nationals stuck in New Zealand.
